Songwriting

A Boy and his Guitar
I met Gary in 1970 my freshman year in high school.   He was a pure soul with a free spirit.
He was also a kick-ass guitarist.
He, Mark and I formed a rock band called "Heat".
We created music and became great friends.

Gary would frequently hop trains and travel the country.  When he returned he always had amazing stories of the places he found and the people he met.

We played together for the next year and 9 months until his tragic and untimely death in a car accident  on August 19, 1972.
He was 18 years old.

I think of him from time to time and remember him with great fondness.

This song is for Gary.
Rest in peace my old friend.

            A Boy & his Guitar

                     Lyrics

In memory of Gary   7/15/54 – 8/19/72

You could always hear the song of life

Feel the music everywhere

Your guitar always by your side

She was the magic you would share

I’m glad I got to know you

If only for a while

We shared the music and a smile

Just a boy and his guitar

Reaching for the stars

The bright lights on the stage

Heading for your grave

Echoes from afar

Just a boy and his guitar

The boxcar of a train is all you needed

To cross the land and see the towns

When you returned to tell your stories

Of all the places you had found

I’m glad I got to know you

If only for a while

We shared the music and a smile

Just a boy and his guitar

Reaching for the stars

The bright lights on the stage

Heading for your grave

Echoes from afar

Just a boy and his guitar

And on that fateful night

With broken hearts

We said goodbye to our friend

Just a boy and his guitar

Reaching for the stars

The bright lights on the stage

Heading for your grave

Echoes from afar

Just a boy and his guitar
